Turkeys Under Pressure

Dead Your Turkey with AMC's The Walking Dead

Dead Your Turkey with AMC’s The Walking Dead

Is your white privilege ruining Thanksgiving now that you’ve learned Squanto was a slave, the “pilgrims” were kind of jerky, the natives had “thanks feasts” every day, and the first thanksgiving was like, a business deal or something?

Are you a Native American Indian who is pissed off by all this cheesed out “tradition?” Does the sight of a turkey decoration made from a hand drawing delight you or gag you? Are you just happy for a reminder to be thankful, while frantically whipping potatoes by hand, Martha Stewart style?

Are you looking forward to/dreading the football? The cooking? The overeating? The cleaning up? The traffic? The fun times/tension/infighting with the fam? Do you neeeeeeeeeeeeeed to perfect your cornucopia, yet you’re falling way behind?? Do you have to work on Friday? Where do you fall on the cranberry sauce debate? Is your mood leaning toward black? Are you excited by ads from Best Buy? Did you contribute to the food drive? Are you well-stocked in the Alcohol Dept.?

YAY, THANKSGIVING IS HERE!

Lot of pressure, amiright.

Turkey in a Pressure Cooker (Not a joke, here’s the recipe)

Put the turkey in the cooker Put the turkey in the cooker Put the turkey in the cooker And the drum beat go like THIS

Put the turkey in the cooker
Put the turkey in the cooker
Put the turkey in the cooker
And the drum beat go like THIS

Today’s Inspiration

The interwebs are abuzz re the vocal track from David Bowie and Freddie Mercury singing the 1981 hit “Under Pressure.” It’s pretty cool:

The lyrics, oddly/fittingly, suit the season:

“Under Pressure”
Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you, no man ask for
Under pressure that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

It’s the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming, “Let me out!”
Tomorrow gets me higher
Pressure on people – people on streets
Chippin’ around, kick my brains ’round the floor
These are the days – it never rains but it pours
People on streets – people on streets
It’s the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming, “Let me out!”
Tomorrow gets me higher, higher, higher…
Pressure on people – people on streets
Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don’t work
Keep coming up with love but it’s so slashed and torn
Why, why, why?
Love
Insanity laughs under pressure we’re cracking
Can’t we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can’t we give love that one more chance?
Why can’t we give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?..
‘Cause love’s such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

Everything feeling like a bit much? That’s what Memento Mori Monday is for. Remember, you will die.

Do a little reset. Maybe vocals only.

Everybody be cool.

  • Are you a Black Friday shopper (BFS)? If so you may want to make a batch of this black chili so you’ll have a hearty meal waiting when you get home.
I tested it for you and it is delish.
